Dragonball Episode 18: The Turtle Hermit Way
Milk deliveries, tilling, running from bees and shark swimming certainly make for unusual training methods. Nonetheless, Goku and Krillin meet these challenges head on. Of course, these tasks would be a lot easier if not for those heavy turtle shells that Master Roshi makes them wear all the time. The boys are pushed to their limits and in the end, they are stronger than ever. And just in the nick of time, as the World Martial Arts Tournament is about to begin.

The jungle island is full of people, but also full of dangerous places most would prefer to avoid. Unfortunately, Master Roshi has Goku and Krillin traverse these areas – all for a milk delivery to an old friend. Even worse, they can look forward to doing this every morning for the near future. There is a method to Master Roshi’s madness – making them ready to compete in the upcoming World Martial Arts Tournament. The boys are thrilled at the prospect, and they aren’t the only ones training for it.

A much larger island sees Goku and Krillin’s training in full swing. Retrieving a marked stone from a vast jungle is their first challenge. It is essentially a race, as the winner will get dinner and the loser will go hungry for the night. Goku relies on his given skills, while Krillin resorts to less ethical methods. Ultimately, Goku finds the stone first, but Krillin swindles him out of it. Things work out for Goku in the end, though, as he avoids food poisoning from the dinner Launch made.

Master Roshi agrees to train Goku and Krillin, but they must perform one simple task first – bring him a beautiful woman. Using Nimbus to search, they experience a couple of mix-ups before finally finding the right woman. Her name is Launch, and they bail her out of what appears to be undeserved trouble. She is happy to work on the island, and Master Roshi is especially happy to have her around. The three guys later learn why she was in trouble before. A simple sneeze transforms her from a nice girl into an aggressive gun-toting one, and only another sneeze can change her back.

Master Roshi previously offered Goku a chance to train under him, and it’s now time to make good. However, he’s not the only one heading to Kame House. Young Krillin also wants some Turtle Hermit training. He doesn’t like the idea of a fellow student, so a rivalry of sorts develops. Master Roshi is definitely going to have his hands full with Goku and Krillin. Out in the desert, Goku’s old friends are stranded and could really use his help right now.

Pilaf leads an assault on Goku to stop him and fails miserably. The remaining heroes figure out that the key to setting things right is cutting off his tail. That is easier said than done, but Puar eventually succeeds. Following all of the upheaval, Goku decides to leave his friends to go receive training from Master Roshi.

There is still time to stop Emperor Pilaf, but the heroes are unfortunately trapped by a wall. Thanks to their shape-shifting powers, Puar and Oolong escape and move it to the Dragon Balls. Oolong’s quick interruption gets Shenron’s attention and a wish – for a comfortable pair of underwear – is made. The Dragon Balls are promptly scattered around the world again – unable to be used for one year. Pilaf is enraged and intends to kill the trapped heroes in the morning. Goku and the full moon, however, lead to bigger problems for everyone.

Pilaf releases sleeping gas inside the chamber, which knocks everyone out. Mai goes in and steals the Four-Star Ball from Goku while he’s sleeping. When they wake up, they realize the ball has been stolen, and begin to run through the hallways. Pilaf sends giant pinballs rolling after them. Just when one of the balls has them cornered, it suddenly backs off, and a wall comes down again. They are trapped in the same room as before. Goku tries to use a Kamehame-Ha to blast away the wall, but only manages to open up a small hole that leads outside, where Pilaf is summoning Shenron. Puar and Oolong turn into bats and fly through the hole to try to steal one of the balls. But before they can get close enough, the dragon appears.
